From Idle Asset to Strategic Deployment
In 2002, CESS was appointed by Rolls-Royce Power Ventures to perform a full market valuation on an unused GE Frame 6FA gas turbine generator package, originally procured for a UK CCGT project that had been cancelled post-acquisition. Still in OEM crates with full warranty and technical documentation, the asset represented significant embedded value if matched with the right buyer.
Following the valuation, CESS was retained on an exclusive marketing mandate to manage global outreach, buyer due diligence, and commercial negotiation.

- GE PG6101FA (MS6001FA) 50 Hz gas turbine

Global Marketing and Buyer Selection
CESS prepared a detailed sales memorandum, complete technical scope breakdown, and supported data room access for vetted parties. Multiple international buyers expressed interest.
After competitive engagement, Lanco Group / Aban Power, one of India’s emerging IPP players, was selected as preferred bidder. The equipment aligned closely with their planned CCGT development in Tamil Nadu.
Export and Relocation Support
Upon completion of the £12.4 million sale in May 2003, CESS worked with all parties to ensure a smooth export process, including:
- Crate verification and manifest alignment
 - Customs and shipping documentation
 - Coordination of OEM support for reinstallation
 - Guidance on site-specific design adaptations for inlet/exhaust (excluded from original supply)

The unit was successfully received and installed by the buyer as part of their new-build development.
Results and Impact
- Asset successfully repurposed from cancelled UK project to operational Indian IPP
 - Buyer received full-scope package with warranty and technical integrity
 - Rolls-Royce recovered full commercial value from unused stock
 - CESS supported entire lifecycle: valuation, marketing, negotiation, and relocation
